How we hold and process your information
Wavehill have been appointed by Cwmpas to undertake a survey of the social business sector in Wales. The purpose of this exercise is to understand the scale and scope of the sector as well as some of the ambitions, challenges, and support needs.
As part of this process, Wavehill are seeking to survey as many businesses that can be described as social businesses as possible. Your name and details have been obtained from the list of social businesses held by Cwmpas or through other publicly available information sources.
The data you provide will only be used for the purposes of this research. Any personal information collected as part of the research is kept confidential. Your answers to the interview will not be made public in a way that could lead to you being identified. Wavehill will produce a report based on the information but this will not identify any individuals without prior consent.
It is also important to note that the team undertaking the research do not work for Cwmpas. This is an independent research study.
Wavehill will delete the information you provide and all personal data relating to this research within 24 months of the end of the research (April 2024).

Under the new data protection legislation, you have the right:
To access your personal data held by Cwmpas.

For (in certain circumstances) your data to be ‘erased’.

1. Why is this research happening?
The information you provide will generate key intelligence on the state of the sector in Wales and will be used to ensure that the development of policy and future support activity by Cwmpas and other external organisations are based on your needs. Where consent is provided, your details will also be used to populate Cwmpas’ and other organisations’ directories.[el1]
2. What type of information is collected through the survey?
The interview focuses on capturing background information about your business, trading-related information, challenges faced, your social impact and business performance, and support needs.
3. What is personal data?
Personal data means any information that could lead to a person being identified either alone or in combination with other widely available information, e.g. their name, their address, or details specific to that person.
4. How long will personal data be kept for?
Wavehill will hold personal data during the contract period but will delete it 24 months after the end of the contract.
5. What is the legal basis for collecting and processing the data collected through the survey?
The legal basis for undertaking this research and obtaining your contact information is ‘Public task’ i.e. the processing is necessary to perform a task in the public interest, and the task has a clear basis in law.
The survey is being carried out by Wavehill on behalf of Cwmpas. Your individual participation in the research is voluntary.
6. What is the purpose of processing your answers to the survey?
The data is used for research purposes only. The data will be analysed to enable Cwmpas understand the state of the social business sector in Wales. This will be used to ensure that the development of policy and future support activity by Cwmpas and other external organisations are based on your needs. The data will not be used for commercial or marketing purposes.
7. Who has access to the personal data collected through the survey?
Wavehill will have a copy of the personal data to allow it to carry out the survey.
Wavehill will make a written record of the discussion during the interview. These notes will be analysed by researchers at Wavehill to produce a report for Cwmpas. This report will not identify any individuals participating in the research without prior consent and the notes of the interviews will not be shared with Cwmpas or anyone else outside of Wavehill. Wavehill will delete all personal data within 24 months of the end of the project.
