What value does community radio provide?
Community radios across the UK are regularly asked to demonstrate their social gains and benefits. Yet what this means in practice can be uncertain. To help understand the needs of the UK community radio sector, Ofcom has commissioned Wavehill to undertake independent research to explore ways in which the social gains provided by the sector can be measured and evaluated.
This research is a unique opportunity for the UK community radio sector to share their ideas and experiences on the social benefits that the sector provides, and how best it can be captured.
What is the intended outcome?
The views and insights that you share will inform options to potentially develop resources, guidance, and toolkits to help you better capture and monitor the social benefits of your radio station. These resources and toolkits can provide a standard approach across the sector, helping you demonstrate your value, not just within your local communities but also to potential funders and investors.
What is involved?
We would like to gather the views of all community radio stations across the UK. We invite you to complete a short survey. The final reported results will be anonymised, and we hope this will encourage you to share your views freely.
You can view all the questions before completing the survey below. Please note this PDF just provides the survey questions; to share your views you will need to complete the survey via the link.
To help track and monitor responses we will ask for the radio license number only. We take the handling of your personal information very seriously and follow strict protocols for handling data. Please see our privacy notice for further information.
How to get involved in this research?
To share your views, simply follow this link, the survey should take no more than 5
minutes to complete.
If you need this survey in any other format, please contact Beth Tweddell
If you would like any further information about this project, please contact Andy Parkinson
The deadline for submissions is Friday 28th February 2025 at 12:00pm
